Far Cry 3 itself is an immense and astounding game. I’ve found myself enraptured by the beauty and violence rampant about Rook Island, and I think that a portion of this enjoyment is in part attributable to Brian Tyler’s soundtrack. It is engaging and well conceived, using a variety of common archetypes in the action genre, without going too far into “cliche” territory. Yes, Tyler does use the familiar tribal-esque chants and drum beats, and yes there are electronic elements that build upon one another in a climactic fashion, but Tyler also weaves in a chorus, beautiful harmonious vocals, piano, violin, accenting strings, and simple concept techniques that further layer the sound of the album as a whole.
